Sports Edition opened up a cracking Stradbroke Handicap program at Eagle Farm with a win in the Hampden Stakes.
Sports Edition was away well from his wide barrier (9) to settle outside the leader Pinch River.
He enjoyed a nice run in the race with the pace slackening in the middle stages. He challenged on cornering for home and finished on resolutely without visually quickening to hit the lead at the 100m and hold a clear margin to score.
Limehills was taken back and settled second last between runners. He was awkwardly placed approaching the home turn and was held up for a run at the top of the straight before switching out into the clear the 250m. He took a few strides to balance and pick up but he was closing late indicating a step up in distance will suit.
Freezethemillions enjoyed a nice run in the race in sixth one of the fence with a trail. He was brought three wide approaching the home turn before taking the home turn four wide. He came with his run but laid in a little under pressure, finishing a non threatening third on the heels of the first two home.
Rich Reward came from third last and widest on the turn to close late for a sound fourth.
