Bouzy Rouge proved to be the one in the Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong on September 5.
Bouzy Rouge settled second last in the 12-horse field and was still conceding the leader about eight lengths at the 600m.
She saved ground, getting a split between runners at the turn, switched out at the 150m and then finished strongly to win with something in hand by just over a length.
It was a smart effort and a good ride by Winona Costin.
Angel Bee raced outside the leader I’m In The Money, got to a narrow lead half-way down the straight and fought on for second, having no chance with the late-closing winner.
I’m In The Money led the field until the 100m point and held on quite well for third.
All Salsa was midfield to the turn, moved up at the 150m and then battled on for a sound (1.8 lengths) fourth.
The favourite My Sabeel was a handy fourth (but deep) before challenging at the turn. She then fought on quite well for fifth, beaten just over two lengths.
