PANZER DIVISION wins 2014 Ming Dynasty Qlty Group 3 $125000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yo, 1400m
Panzer Division soon crossed to the lead and he then settled nicely (first 800m 48.94). He responded well when challenged shortly after turning for home, drew clear at the 200m and went on to win well by a length and a quarter. He appears suited to further still and looks a quality colt.
Shooting To Win had a good run in third place on the rails to the turn. He moved up well nearing the 100m and then battled gamely for a most encouraging second.
Lady Sharapova was sixth one off the rails to the turn. She put in a run on passing the 300m and kept making ground in promising fashion to finish third. She should appreciate further and looks to have good claims in the upcoming fillies’ races.
Bold Circle was fourth to the turn. He moved up on entering the straight and kept battling on to hold
his position to finish (3.9 lengths) fourth.Valentia raced outside the leader (Panza Division), challenged that runner on turning for home then battled on for fifth, beaten four lengths.
The favourite Washington Heights was last in the nine-horse field to the 600m. He was under pressure nearing the turn and went to the inside on straightening. But he struggled from that point to finish sixth, beaten just under five lengths, and may improve on a firmer track.
