Our Boy Malachi wins 2014 Starlight Stakes Listed $100,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yo+, 1100m.
The former North Queensland-trained Our Boy Malachi won impressively taking his imposing record to 15 wins from 17 starts, now winning both runs since joining the Team Hawkes stable. He was smartly away from his wide barrier (11) and settled outside the leader (Senta De Noche) travelling a brisk pace. He took the lead at the 200m and then drew away to win comfortably by almost two lengths.
Dothraki enjoyed a good trip in fourth place, looked a threat when he moved up at the 200m but he then found the winner too good, conceding him 3.5kg, and fought on for a very good second.
Senta De Noche was quickly away, went straight to the lead and set a good pace until half-way down the straight before finishing third.
Fare Well travelled nicely back in seventh place, went to fourth at the 300m and kept fighting on to hold that position, beaten just over three lengths.
Lilliburlero was checked in the early stages and settled at the tail of the 12-horse field. She remained there to the home turn, went to the centre of the track at the 300m and ran on well for a good (4.4 lengths) fifth.
