Rudy wins 2014 Tattersall’s Recognition Stks Listed $100,000 at Doomben (QLD), 1630m.
The favourite Rudy was ridden quietly in the early stages and settled back in tenth place, between runners. He was still a long way back at the 800m before making a quick run (very wide) nearing the home turn. He put in a strong run in the centre of the track, hit the lead at the 100m and then drew away to win by a length and a half, putting up a most impressive performance.
Grayson Square was a handy fifth, moved up well coming to the home turn and took the lead at the 200m. He then fought on well for a sound second, having no chance with the late-closing winner.
Darci Be Good was sixth, one off the rails, fanned deep at the home turn and then kept battling on to take third.
Noisy Ocean made ground along the rails from the rear at the 800m. He got a split at the 200m and fought on for fourth while the second favourite Hopfgarten was also well back to the home turn, he looked for a run at the 200m but was checked losing all chance and his last placing should be overlooked.
