Brook Road wins 2014 Travel Associates Classic Listed $100,000 at Doomben (QLD) Fillies & Mares, 1200m.
The Kris Lees-trained four-year-old Brook Road is building a most consistent record having now raced nine times for four wins and four placings. He was a bit slow to move but Jim Byrne rode him hard and he improved quickly to settle in third place on the rails. He then travelled well, got an inside run at the 300m, hit the lead at the 100m and went on to score well by half a length.
Last season’s Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Tinto, having her first run since June, was last in the 16-horse field to the home turn. She stuck to the rails, saving considerable ground, going to sixth at the 200m and then finished strongly for an eye-catching second.
Playtime was tenth on the rails, got through to fifth at the 200m and fought on well for third while Tukiyo was handy most of the way and held on well for a close-up fourth.
