Surpass wins 2014 Waikato Times Gold Cup Group 3 NZ$100,000 at Te Rapa (NZ), 2400m.
Ridden positively from a midfield draw, Surpass was unable to find a position one off the fence and pressed on to race outside the leader with a lap to run. Surpass travelled boldly, securing cover at the 1000m, before ranging to lead with plenty to offer on straightening and he put the issue beyond doubt whenasked to quicken at the 250m.
From midfield on the rail, Tempelten tracked through between runners at the 300m and responded gamely for second.
Used early from a wide gate to work across and trail after 400m, Decorah received a split on the rail at the 300m and surged home in minimal room behind the winner.
Rearward, Delago's Secret was third last with a mile to run. He stood the leader eight lengths at the 600m before circling wide and made the most ground of those back in the field to finish fourth.
The favourite, Show the World, received a nice trip three back on the outer and had his chance in finishing fifth.
