Sacred Star wins 2015 J R & N Berkett Telegraph Group 1 NZ$ 250,000 at Trentham (NZ), 1200m.
Top weight (57kg) Sacred Star scored a brilliant firstup victory. He began smartly from his wide barrier (12) and settled about eighth, wide with cover, following a strong tempo. He moved to fifth when into the home straight, took the lead at the 200m and then raced right away to score by four lengths in fast time.
Designated Driver was near the rear on the rails in the large 17-horse field. She got through on the inner once into the home straight, and made late ground to grab a good second.
Trepidation was midfield and wide the cover. She put in a good run in the centre of the course at the 400m and kept fighting on well to take the minor placing.
Durham Town raced on the pace, in third place outside the leading pair (Adventador and Tomorrowland), he challenged at the 300m and did well to hold on for (5 lengths) fourth after his early efforts.
Soubrettes raced midfield on the rails, switched into clear running at the 400m and looked to have her chance from that point to finish (5.2 lengths) fifth.
