Kawi wins 2015 Tui Anniversay Hcp Listed NZ$ 50,000 at Trentham (NZ), 1600m.
Kawi put up a very good effort to win. He was last in the early stages before improving to be ninth on the rails. He made ground between runners nearing the home turn but then had to ease across heels at the 250m to get clear running. He then finished too well to score a strong half-length win after a difficult trip.
Waikaha raced in second place before taking the lead at the 300m. She then battled gamely, only being overhauled nearing the post for good second.
Locket was near the tail of the field, improved wide with cover coming to the home turn. She switched deep at the 250m and ran on to grab third in a photo.
Benzini was seventh on the rails, stuck to the inside and got through to third half-way down the straight and only missed the minor placing in the last few strides to finish fourth.
