Pearl Star wins 2015 Dequetteville Stakes Listed $ 80,000 at Morphettville (SA) 2yoFillies, 1050m.
Mornington-trained filly Pearl Star went back from a wide barrier and settled at the tail of the field. Michelle Payne moved her up (wide with cover) from the 600m, before fanning deep on straightening. Pearl Star then ran on strongly, hit the front nearing the 100m and drew clear to win impressively by almost two lengths, relishing the rainaffected going.
Typhoon Witness raced outside the leader (Orvassa), went to the front at the 200m and fought on quite well for (1.8 lengths) second.
Schism was just past midfield (wide with cover), put in a run on turning for home and kept battling on from the 200m for (2.5 lengths) third.
The favourite, Misty Waters, a winner of her only two starts, dipped shortly after the start, losing her jockey.
