Thermal Current was quickly away from barrier ten and then eased to race in third place, following a good pace. He moved up nicely on turning for home, went to the front at the 150m and drew clear to score nicely by just over a length.
Yesterday's Songs began well but did not show any early pace and drifted back from his inside barrier (1) to settle in second last place in the 11-horse field. Damien Oliver steered him along the rails on turning for home and he got through to third at the 200m and continued along the rails for a sound (1.2 lengths) second.
Minaj showed all her customary pace and led the field until passing the 200m and then held on quite well for (2 lengths) third.
Top weight (59kg) Karacatis was a handy fourth on the rails to the home turn and battled on in the straight to hold that position, beaten 3.5 lengths, after appearing to have every chance.
