Amicus wins 2015 Let’s Elope Stakes Group 2 $200,000 at Flemington (VIC) 4yo+Mares, 1400m.
Amicus settled well back and wide down the back straight and still had just a few behind her upon straightening. Widest of all the runners, she kept up a determined run out in the middle of the track and wore down the leaders with less than 50m to run. It was a very determined effort and being well off the rails throughout, there were no real excuses for the rest.
Precious Gem was well back throughout and looked to have no chance with 300m left, yet somehow threaded her way through and lunged at the finish. Although second, she tried her heart out but just could not repel the winner.
May's Dream was mid field deep into the straight but had major traffic problems. She waited for the gaps to open and when one finally did she charged through but it was too late.
