Amarula wins 2015 Sacred Falls Hawke’s Bay Gneas Group 2 NZ$100,000 at Hastings (NZ) 3yo, 1400m.
From barrier ten, Amarula found the front and rail after 100m and kept up a steady pace around the corner and into the straight. With 300m remaining, apprentice Shaun McKay set the colt alight and he broke clear to be three lengths in front at the 100m. He was never in danger after that and won very well at long odds.
Scrutinize had three behind him at the 600m and turned for home wide out. He ducked in at the 300m but then steadied and made a determined run at the winner while never looking like catching him.
Battle Time had a nice run in behind the leading group and found space as they straightened. He ran on but the winner had the race won.
Marky Mark was also well back and tracked Scrutinize around the turn, finishing strongly but a well beaten (2.7 lengths) fourth.
