Tarzino wins 2015 Aami Victoria Derby Group 1 $1.5 Million at Flemington (VIC) 3yo, 2500m.
Favourite Tarzino put up a strong staying effort in winning impressively. He went forward and was third in the early stages before easing to settle back in seventh place. He was shuffled further back in the mid-stages before improving nicely from the 600m (wide with cover). He easily took the lead at the 300m and was not threatened from that point to score a very good win.
Etymology was back in ninth place (trapped a bit deep) before improving to travel in seventh place (one off the rails). He improved between runners rounding the home turn, got through to second at the 200m and fought well to hold that position, just finding the winner too good.
Kia Ora Koutou travelled well about eighth on the rails. He improved between runners at the home turn, switched into clear running at the 300m and kept finishing on, getting up in time to grab a sound third.
Red Alto settled about tenth, made a quick (wide) run nearing the 600m and almost hit the front on turning for home. He then battled on well for a good (6.7 lengths) fourth after making an early bid.
