Ambience 2015 Mumm Wakeful Stakes Group 2 $300,000 at Flemington (VIC) 3yoFillies, 2000m.
Ambience returned to her best form after finishing third at her first start in the Melbourne direction in the Ethereal Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) Caulfield on 17 October when jockey James McDonald said the filly ‘got on the wrong leg’. She travelled nicely here in fourth place on the rails from her good barrier (3), switched out at the 300m, sprinted clear on passing the 200m and went on to score impressively.
Beluga Blue settled in seventh place on the rails from her inside barrier (1), stuck to the inner on turning for home and kept making ground for a sound second, having no chance with winner.
Muzyka went back from her wide barrier (13) and then improved along the rails to settle in in tenth place. She got a split at the 300m, went to fifth at the 200m and kept battling on well for third.
Dawnie Perfect had a good trip in seventh place, one off the rails, moved up quite well rounding the home turn and briefly looked a threat at the 300m. But she just battled from that point to finish (4.1 lengths) fourth.
Zarabeel made ground after racing near the tail of field to finish (4.6 lengths) fifth, Bengal Cat was handy to the home turn before finishing sixth while My Poppette led until into the home straight but tired for (5.2 lengths) seventh.
