Junoob wins 2015 Ballarat Cup Listed $300,000 at Ballarat (VIC), 2200m.
Junoob was wide on the track heading past the judge the first time and held a similar position down the back straight, giving the leaders six to eight lengths. Jockey Brad Rawiller found space against the fence before the field started on the home bend, saving good ground. While there were challenges beginning before the home straight, Junoob hugged the rails and then waited for a split which took place at the 250m and Junoob saw the gap and ranged up to the leaders but then accelerated hard to break away and put the result away.
Wales was well back down the back and made a sharp move before straightening and ran through to be in a position to challenge at the 200m but couldn’t bridge the gap despite passing everything except the winner.
Sonntag lead, then trailed around the corner and took over again into the straight and attempted to kick clear. He fought strongly and while he could not hold out the winner he never gave away over the last 200m.
