Fontelina wins 2015 Jones Retail Lough Neagh Stks Listed $175,000 at Doomben (QLD), 1350m.
Group Two-winning sprinter Fontelina won his first race since November 2013 at his fourth run this preparation since being transferred to Eagle Farm trainer Tony Gollan. He enjoyed a perfect trip in fourth place on the rails from his good barrier (2). He was travelling well but blocked briefly on straightening, got a split at the 200m, hit the front at the 100m and went on to win comfortably. It was also a good ride by Jim Byrne.
Favourite Saluter went to the front but was pressured in the mid-stages (by Temple Of Boom). He drew to a clear lead at the 200m but could not hold off the winner in the closing stages after his early efforts for a good second.
Weinholt had an ideal trip in third place behind the leaders, briefly looked a chance when he moved up at the 200m and battled on from there to just hold the minor placing from Gundy Spirit who ran on from sixth at the home turn for (2.3 lengths) fourth.
