Kawi wins 2015 Kamada Pk Manawatu Chall. Stks Group 2 NZ$100,000 at Awapuni (NZ), 1400m.
Kawi took time to find his feet and after 200m had two behind him one off the fence. At the 600m his position was unchanged but soon after, jockey Johnathon Parkes, began niggling at the big gelding and just before the home straight Parkes had him out widest and reminding him what was expected. Kawi found his rhythm passing the 200m and began to let down, shouldering past those on his inside to take over with 75m to run - not by a wide margin but certainly in a convincing manner.
Mighty Solomon was fourth passing the 600m and fanned three off the fence as they straightened then raced up to the leader (Miss Appleton) and put his nose in front only to be run down by the winner but a game effort.
Tomorrowland raced in second but was giving the leader four lengths with 600m to run and that margin was the same at the 250m. He battled past the leader but the two on his outside were stronger over the last few strides.
