Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 8th and 10th of January

3 minute read

The Shane Baertschiger trained Mycaptainoblivious was one of the stand-out performances over the weekend continuing his great run of form in Singapore on Friday night.

Originally based in New Zealand, Mycaptainoblivious joined Baertschiger's team in 2013 and proceeded to notch up four wins from his first seven starts.

In that period he never missed the money before a bleeding attack saw him finish down the track in August 2014.

His next three starts all proved disappointing before given a lengthy break (203 days) and he is now back in career best form.

Obviously faced with a few niggling issues, Baertschiger appears to have found the key to his son of Captain Rio as he continues to improve with each performance.

An eye catcher first up behind The Nutcracker, Mycaptainoblivious then went on to defeat the talented Kam's Comet.

The latter since turned the tables at their next outing, before Mycaptainoblivious returned to the winner's stall in fine fashion over the weekend.

Enjoying a lovely run in transit, Mycaptainoblivious always travelled well for John Powell in what really was a sit and steer job.

The Theo Kieser trained Sebas took up the running with Mycaptainoblivious settling second after jumping well from the outside stall.

Tracking the lead throughout, Mycaptainoblivious popped off the fence passing the 700m and loomed ominously on straightening.

Under minimal urgings, Mycaptainoblivious quickly levelled up outside Sebas before drawing clear over the final 200m.

The Stephen Gray trained Strubeli worked home well to finish second, however he never troubled Mycaptainoblivious at any stage.

His sixth win from 15 starts in Singapore, Mycaptainoblivious has improved 11 pounds this time in and is clearly heading in the right direction.

Comparatively he recorded the quickest time of the night and it's worth noting it was his strongest performance ever against the clock.

Likely to now be taken through his grades, if able to continue his upwards spiral more wins appear in store for the gelding.

Time Odyssey

On Sunday evening the Pat Shaw trained Time Odyssey stole the show when demoralising his rivals in the ninth event.

Ridden by the in-form Corey Brown, Time Odyssey received all the favours in second place and proceeded to notch up his third win from four starts.

Showing his rivals a clean pair of heels, Time Odyssey put the race out of doubt passing the 500m after ambling up to the lead approaching the turn.

Let rip inside the 400m, Time Odyssey streaked clear of his rivals going on to score by a widening six lengths.

Returning a new career peak, Time Odyssey has proven a revelation since tried over the staying trips this time in.

His performance two back indicated he was heading in the right direction when returning time figures ahead of the bare form.

He has since confirmed this notion and now creates plenty of interest moving forward.

Following the event the Singapore Derby was tossed up as a likely target, however stablemate Perfect P certainly remains the one to beat from Shaw's stable at this point in time.

Nonetheless he couldn't have done much more and is a must for your blackbook as he continues his rise through the grades.
