Guarantor wins 2016 M Ewen & Assoc. Kaimai Listed NZ$50,000 at Matamata (NZ), 2000m.
Guarantor, from 11 at the barrier, settled midfield passing the judge with a circuit to run. He held his position down the back then moved up wide around the corner to be handy at the top of the straight. Out in the middle of the track but balanced, he challenged the leader (Matimba) but took some time to pass but by the 100m he was galloping smoothly and pulled clear with some ease at the post.
Thee Auld Floozie hugged the rail (mid-field) down the back, moved up handier before the last corner but had to weave between runners for a clear run and ran on strongly, too late to catch the winner’s break.
Matimba lead down the back and into the home straight, fighting the winner well at the 150m and only losing second short of the post.
