Felicienne wins 2016 Schweppervescence Trophy Group 3 $150,000 at Flemington (VIC) 3yo+Fillies & Mares, 1600m.
Felicienne did not take advantage of her inside draw and settled midfield on the rails after 200m. She continued to drift and passing the 800m had two behind her and just before straightening was last. With the field all racing wide, she had a lot of room to make a run and having saved a lot of ground surged along the rail, avoided the riderless Noble Protector, and took over the lead with 200m remaining. Apprentice Harry Coffey drove her out and she raced to the line with a clear lead.
Metaphorical was in the pack around the bend, edged closer before the straight and was given a clear look and looked the danger passing the 300m. She ran on well for second and might have finished closer with a view of the winner who was out of sight on the rail.
Alaskan Rose was equal last with the winner entering the home straight and they collided and Alaska Rose came close to falling yet somehow kept her feet and threaded her way through the field to finish an unlucky third.
