Into The Mist wins 2016 Hughes Queen Of The South Stks Group 2 $175,000 at Morphettville (SA) 3yo+Fillies & Mares, 1600m.
Into The Mist raced in eighth place on the rails, behind a moderate pace. She switched back to the rails on turning for home and went to the front on passing the 200m. She then fought back well for a good win.
The top weight (58.5kg) Atlantis Dream settled well back in the field from her wide barrier (17). She improved (very deep) from the 600m, put in a strong run (wide out) at the 200m and fought well for a good second, her difficult barrier proving costly.
Rocket Commander was a handy fourth, moved up at the home turn and kept fighting on to take the minor placing.
Felicienne settled well back in the field from her outside barrier (18). She improved (very deep) rounding the home turn and did very well after a wide run to finish (1.4 lengths) fourth.
The favourite French Emotion was a handy third coming to the home turn, put in a brief run on straightening but disappointed over the final stages to finish 12th.
