Moqla wins 2016 Queen Adelaide Stakes Listed $100,000 at Morphettville (SA) 2yo, 1050m.
The Shadwell-raced filly Moqla, racing in blinkers for the first time, showed very good early pace to cross to the front from her outside barrier (10). She then travelled strongly in front, dashed clear on straightening and then fought back to win in a bold front-running performance.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Sylpheed began well but after being caught deep from barrier nine, she eased and was midfield and deep at the home turn. She then came with a strong late run to take a very good second after a difficult trip. It was a very smart effort under the circumstances.
Posh Journey settled back in eighth place, switched out on straightening and ran on quite well for a sound third.
The favourite Tris, a stablemate of the winner, raced well below her best. She was fractious in the barriers and was third in the early part before settling in fifth place, between runners. She was under riding at the home turn and failed to run on and finished a well beaten sixth.
