Jochen Rindt wins 2016 Taumarunui Cup Listed NZ$50,000 at Arawa Park (NZ), 2200m.
From barrier one Jochen Rindt under Samantha Collett jump as well as any to be narrowly in front soon after the start. Into the straight with more than a circuit to run they maintained their position and were under no pressure. Hugging the rail on the turn into the back straight Jochen Rindt edged out to a length advantage. The lead narrowed at the 800m but Collett cuddled the gelding up but passing the 600m she let out some rein and a gap opened up. By the 400m they sneaked away by three lengths and into the straight increased that to five lengths. After that, it was a procession and by the time the post was reached they were out by eleven lengths. Nothing else had a remote chance.
Pump Up The Volume was equal last down the back and then made his run widest around the home turn to be second turning in but had no chance down the home straight, making up ground to finish second, beaten a length.
Second Innings was well back starting the bend (rails), found a way through to be second before the straight then battled as best he could, back in third and a length and a quarter ahead of fourth finisher, Perfect Start.
Favourite Katie McKeen never got into a challenging position and floundered into fifth, beaten three and a half lengths.
