Ocean Embers wins 2016 Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 4yo+Mares, 1200m.
The favourite Ocean Embers continues to race in very good form this preparation with three wins and a second from four starts. She settled well back in 12th place in the 14-horse field from her outside barrier (14). She then improved, widest of all, on straightening and came with a powerful late run to win impressively.
Thames Court began well and settled outside the leader (Andrassy). She got the better of that runner and took the lead at the 100m, before fighting back for second.
Telopea settled back in 12th place on the rails from her good barrier (2) before improving along the inner to be seventh at the home turn. She got through to fourth at the 100m and then fought well for a close-up third.
The leader Andrassy held on for (1.4 lengths) fourth while Don't Doubt Mamma caught the eye running on late from 11th at the home turn for (1.6 lengths) fifth in a smart first-up performance.
