Detective wins 2016 Express Room Stakes Listed $120,000 at Flemington (VIC) 3yo, 1400m.
Detective, from barrier 11, got away as well as any, however, rider Chris Parnham waited for those on his inner to get into stride so as to slot in to third, one off the fence. At the 1200m he cruised into second and travelled comfortably just on the leader's outer the entire Flemington bend. Turning in for the run home they were perfectly placed to pounce although Parnham sat quietly until the 300m, shaking the reins then asking the colt for more with a couple of slaps as they edged clear. Inside the 50m Detective had enough up his sleeve and under hands and heels held on comfortably enough at the line.
Tessera sat just behind Detective's outer around the corner and into the straight, keeping the winner in sight all the to finish yet never looking like passing, holding on best of the rest for second.
Throssell was worse than midfield approaching the last corner. He was pulled wide upon straightening and ran on well, especially over the last 100m, to lose second in a head-bob.
