Observational wins 2017 Golden Mile Listed $150,000 at Bendigo (VIC), 1600m.
Former British Listed winner and also winner of this race in 2015, Observational, scored a mild upset here yet a promising first up run for seventh perhaps gave a clue to a return to form. Under Craig Newett he settled well back in a fast paced race to be third last approaching the last corner. Newitt went widest into the home straight and once balanced they wound up strongly and really flew the last 50m to win going away.
Jacquinot Bay was wide most of the way, ranged up at the 200m and looked the winner at the 100m only to be run down late.
War Legend moved up to be handy but wide turning in, challenged at the 300m then ran on to grab a close up third from Burning Front, who led yet was collared inside the 200m but fought well for fourth.
