Bonniegirl wins 2017 Nzb Finance Sprint Listed NZ$50,000 at Hastings (NZ) , 1200m.
Favourite and fresh up specialist Bonniegirl flew home for a narrow win and her first at stakes level. Jockey Matty Cameron, from barrier 11, had the mare worse than midfield (wide) upon settling, dropping back to be third last at the 600m. Straightening, they had plenty to do but Cameron pulled wide at the 300m, took a few strides to gather momentum but she reeled them in then stretched her neck over the last 50m to win well if narrowly by a short neck.
Underthemoonlight cruised up to be handy but wide turning in, then ran on well only to be denied in the final couple of strides.
Passing Shot took over the lead into the straight, shot clear by two lengths at the 200m and was collared only in the last few strides for a close-up third. Amarula was widest turning for home and kept up a strong run for fourth.
