Karacatis wins 2017 D C McKay Stakes Group 3 $175,000 at Morphettville (SA), 1100m.
In a packed finish where the first six horses went across the line only a length apart, the eight-year-old gelding Karacatis, who was having his 50th race start, scored his 11th win. He showed good pace from his wide barrier (10) and soon crossed to the lead. He then set quite a good tempo, was challenged on straightening and then kept fighting back gamely to score in a photo.
Reldas raced in seventh place, between runners, got into clear running at the 150m and ran on well for a close second.
Kaepernick was near last in the ten-horse field before going widest of all at the home turn. He then ran on well for the closest of thirds, putting up a smart effort.
