Crack Me Up wins 2017 Tattersall’s Mile Listed $100,000 at Doomben (QLD), 1600m.
Smart Liam Birchley-trained three-year-old Crack Me Up followed his good win in the Sunshine Coast Guineas (Gr 3, 1600m) on 1 July with another good stakes victory here. He settled in sixth place, one off the rails, was shuffled back to eighth before moving up (deep) rounding the home turn. He then ran on resolutely, finishing too well to score narrowly but in good style against older opposition.
Cruising Speed raced in seventh place, on the rails, angled deeper between runners at the home turn. She challenged at the 100m and then fought gamely for a good second.
Pindan Pearl had a nice trip in third place on the rails, briefly got to the front at 100 metres and she then held on to take the minor place.
Glendara was back in ninth place, on the rails, and made late ground for (2.4 lengths) fourth while the favourite Sheiswhatsheis showed her customary pace to lead, set a good tempo, but was overtaken nearing the 100m before finishing (2.6 lengths) fifth after running a bold race.
