Overshare wins 2017 McKenzie Stakes Listed $120,000 at Moonee Valley (VIC), 1200m.
The Team Hawkes-trained colt Overshare returned after racing in Sydney to score a smart win here, his second win in five starts and his first at stakes class. He began quickly from his good barrier (3) went to the front and after going a bit keenly in the early part and then settled well. He was challenged at the home turn but kept fighting back really well to score well.
The favourite Bandipur crossed to race outside the leader (Overshare), challenged that runner at the home turn and kept fighting gamely for a good second.
The $41 outsider Sunquest settled back in eighth place (on the rails), improved between runners at the home turn and then ran on well to take a good third.
Azazel raced in sixth place, one off the rails, moved up (deep) approaching the home turn and kept fighting quite well for (1.4 lengths) fourth.
