Daysee Doom wins 2017 Golden Pendant Group 2 $400,000 at Rosehill (NSW), 1400m.
In a great result for trainer Ron Quinton, his two highly consistent mares Daysee Doom and Dixie Blossoms fought out the finish with the former scoring by a short neck. Daysee Doom began well from barrier ten and settled in third place, but was caught three wide without cover. She got to the front at the 200m and then fought back very gamely for a very smart win, her seventh in 14 starts. Dixie Blossoms settled in ninth place before tracking up (three wide with cover) from the 800m. She switched out at the 300m, challenged at the 100m and battled strongly for second.
The favourite Omei Sword was more handily placed from her inside barrier and soon getting through to race in third place on the rails. She got an inside run nearing the 200m and then kept battling on for third after appearing to have had every chance.
Danish Twist was back midfield on the rails, got along the inner from the 200m and kept fighting nicely on for (1.4 lengths) fourth.
Zenalicious was last until nearing the home turn, switched deeper at the 300m and ran on nicely for (2 lengths) fifth in a promising second up effort while Bonny O’Reilly was ninth (between runners) coming to the home turn, was handy enough at the 200m and the kept battling on for (2.5 lengths) sixth in another honest effort.
