Alizee wins 2017 Flight Stakes Group 1 $500,000 at Randwick (NSW), 1600m.
Godolphin-raced filly Alizee is a very classy filly, following her very good win in the Tea Rose Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at this track on 16 September with most impressive victory here, her first at Group One level. She was again ridden patiently by Glyn Schofield and was last in the 11-horse field before improving between runners on straightening. She switched deeper and into clear running at the 300m, sprinted quickly to hit the front at the 100m and then went on to score effortlessly.
Champagne Cuddles was last early on, improved along the inner to the seventh on turning for home. She then took a split to hit the front at the 200m and then fought well for a good second, having no answer to the winner’s late bid.
Cellargirl raced back in eighth place, one off the rails, switched deep rounding the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then kept fighting on to take third in a photo. One More Honey raced in sixth place, went wide on turning for home and then kept running on quite well for fourth.
