Bring Me Roses wins 2017 Edward Manifold Stakes Group 2 $200,000 at Flemington (VIC), 1600m.
The Tony McEvoy-trained filly Bring Me Roses followed promising late-closing placings in Listed races at Morphettville to take out her first win in four starts here, suddenly became a strong prospect for next month’s VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) in scoring here. She settled back in third last place in the 15-horse field, angled into clear running at the 300m and then came with a brilliant finish to score easily by just over two lengths.
Mick Price-trained filly Hiyaam raced in third place, on the rails, moved up to challenge at the 300m and kept fighting really well for second in a good effort at only her third start.
The favourite Leather‘n’Lace had a good trip in fourth place, one out and out back, improved nicely at the home turn, looked to be travelling comfortably when she took the lead at the 200m but then fought on for third, perhaps being tested by the 1600m trip while the Lindsay Park-trained Pure Scot was back in last place at the home turn and caught the eye, running on late for (2.7 lengths) fourth.
