Like A Carousel wins 2017 Pakenham Cup Listed $250,000 at Racing.Com Park (VIC), 2500m.
The first two home fought out a great tussle with Like A Carousel stretching his neck just short of the wire to win narrowly but well, his fourth win. He settled midfield, one off the fence down the back straight with rider Linda Meech waiting until they started the bend before moving forward.
At the 600m they moved out another width which saw them five wide and challenging for the lead turning in. Into the straight and widest, Meech urged him along, drew the whip inside the 300m and doggedly chased after the leader, lunging a couple of strides from the post to win by a head.
Khartoum took over narrowly turning in, still led or co-led at the 200m, tried to break clear but couldn't shake off the winner.
The unlucky runner was Oncidium Ruler who switched ground several times in the home straight and never saw daylight until the race was pretty much over, emerging from the pack for third but too late.
