Pierata wins 2017 Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate Group 3 $200,000 at Doomben (QLD), 1350m.
Promising Greg Hickman-trained colt Pierata was impressive in winning here, now taking his record to three wins and two placings from seven starts to date. He began well and settled nicely in seventh place, one off the trails, behind a quick tempo before switching deeper on turning for home. He then sprinted quickly, hit the front at the 100m and then went on to score easily.
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly Dinnigan soon drove through from her good barrier (2) to lead. She then set a solid tempo, grabbed a break on straightening and was only overtaken at the 100m. She then fought well for second, finding the winner too good but it was a most promising effort from a filly who is a maiden after four starts.
The Bjorn Baker-trained colt Goodfella settled back in 12th place from his outside barrier (16) before improving (deep) from the 600m. He then ran on strongly, taking the eye with his late-closing third.
