Race 1: Annie's Rose

Annie's Rose was a smart winner to kick off proceedings on Saturday at headquarters.

Running to 90 on the Racing and Sports scale, the Alexander Justice-trained four-year-old mare returned in career best form to post a new peak.

Sitting off the pace in the early stages, 2kg claimer Rochelle Milnes sat pretty on her mount rounding the home-turn and quickly put pay to her rivals before cruising to the line to score (1.3L) with a fair bit up her sleeve.

A product of the 2011 Group 1 Manikato Stakes, Annie's Rose is a daughter of Sepoy (1st) out of Rue Maple (5th), who was a skilful enough sprinter in her own right; rated 108 on the R&S scale.

Finishing fastest at the end of 1200m first-up, I'm confident Annie's Rose has more to offer this campaign and can win again for us.
