Midweek racing from Sandown Lakeside and Canterbury and we’ve got a horse to follow from each meeting.
Sandown Lakeside Race 2 – Daggers
Excellent debut from this relation to Muramasa, out of the good mare Omei Sword, sitting on speed and absolutely bolting in over 1300m. Only moderate fractions early helped with that but he's reeled off some very good late splits, posting a strong overall speed figure with Racing & Sports. He's run a full second, or six lengths faster than the benchmark 64 1300m race later in the day and looks every bit a Group class horse. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in a Golden Rose and/or Caulfield Guineas.
Canterbury Race 6 – Too Much Caviar
Really liked the return of this G Waterhouse & A Bott trained gelding who was resuming over 1250m, a trip well short of his best. He hit the line nicely for second behind an all the way winner, beaten 1.2 lengths and posting a clear new first-up peak for him. He holds a peak Timeform rating of 101 over 2000m and isn't far off that here, suggesting he's right on track to better it this time in. Watch for him third up over a bit more ground when he can lead and dictate a race.
