Race 5: The Journo
The Journo returned in career best order on Saturday with perhaps the most visually impressive win on the card. Running to a new peak on the Racing and Sports scale, the four-year-old son of Written By had plenty of work to do when entering the lane after settling 13/15. Stuck to the fence, the G & N Searle & B Callanan-trained runner had over 6L to make up when making the turn. Ridden patiently by Jacob Opperman, the hoop slowly peeled off the fence as his rivals fanned towards the middle of the track, before finally gaining a clear passage passing the 200m to let down with their assault. Lengthening quickly, The Journo picked up and put down his rivals in a matter of strides to charge away and score by 0.7L. The clock backed up the eye with The Journo rattling off the second fastest final 600m (33.12), and quickest final 400m & 200m. With the amount he had left up his sleeve when crossing the line I expect The Journo to progress through his grades this preparation, so with that more success is anticiapted.
