The Magic Millions spotlight is firmly set on the second race at Canterbury on Saturday.
While the opening favourite at Canterbury, Champagne Cath, is out of the Canterbury race and the $2m Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on January 12th, Gai Waterhouse's unraced youngster Aussies Love Sport has stirred considerable interest for the $85,000 2013 ATC Membership On Sale Now Plate (1200m).
TAB Sportsbet reports that in opening Millions' markets Aussies Love Sport was $151, but continued support and glowing media reports from Waterhouse, have seen the odds tumble into $14.
“The biggest single bet was $2000 at $26 on Christmas Eve, but there have been a few astute punters snap-up $101 and $81 for decent money,” spokesman Adam Hamilton said.
“On a day where there are key Magic Millions runners in three different states, it is Aussies Love Sport we will be watching the closest."
The juveniles race at 1.50pm at Canterbury.
At Moonee Valley on Saturday, Rick Hore-Lacy's Cranbourne debut winner Clevadude has been backed from $1.70 into $1.60 to make it two wins from as many starts.
“The punters were right onto him before he stepped-out at Cranbourne. He is our $4.50 second pick for the Magic Millions, but another impressive win could see him grab favouritism from Assail who is at $4,” Hamilton said.
“We've also good interest this week in Sir Luminar, $10 to $8, and he is our $3.20 favourite to win tomorrow's Bruce McLachlan at Doomben.”
Betting on the $1m Magic Millions Guineas for three-year-olds will also come under the microscope with $3 favourite Sizzling being a $1.60 favourite to win the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben tomorrow.
“The other watch runner for that race is Hoss Amor. He is $12 for the Guineas, but he has been $4.60 into $3.20 to win at Canterbury tomorrow,” Hamilton said.
Hoss Amor, trained by John O'Shea, races in the $85,000, Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1250m) at 4.30pm.
