Not much has gone right for Sydney in 2023 coming off a grand year and maybe that Grand Final demise curse holds true again.
They have no realistic hope of making the Finals and in truth, after the style of season, it would be a huge surprise to put together any sort of a winning streak.
That said, who knows as anything is possible. But it all starts right here and given their current SCG form, it could well stop immediately.
The Swans let themselves down at the MCG giving up a near 5 goal lead at times to Richmond. It was entirely predictable given some lack of confidence, as was shown against Geelong.
Errol Gulden is still having a fine season and could very easily win the B&F in just his third year. And the warrior Luke Parker still gives his all but they are missing Chad Warner in the guts too.
In the Western Bulldogs they face a side who also lost last week and would be disappointed to lose to the rampant Collingwood. Not because of effort but because of giving up a good lead at times at home.
Then again they fell nearly 7 goals down and worked it back to 2 on the siren. Their forwards looked strong with Naughton, Weightman and Ugle-Hagan netting 10 between them. Jamarra could well have had 6 himself with better kicking.
The Dogs should win this game. They are playing better, have more on the line and seemingly more in form players. And yet something says Sydney has a chance.
Since 2015 the Bulldogs, in 11 games against Sydney, have saluted 7 times and 3 were here as well. That bodes well.
Tipping the Western Bulldogs should be favourites so we bet that way.
