England's stand-in Test captain Ollie Pope will play for the Adelaide Strikers in the BBL.

Pope, currently filling in for England's injured regular skipper Ben Stokes in a Test series against Sri Lanka, is a BBL pre-draft signing by the Strikers' new coach Tim Paine.

"(He) is an exceptional talent with a proven track record at the highest level," Paine said on Thursday.

"His dynamic batting style and wicket-keeping abilities are a fantastic addition to our squad ... he will be a key player for us this season.

"His experience and leadership will undoubtedly elevate our team."

The 26-year-old Pope has been a force in domestic T20 leagues, scoring 1295 runs in 60 matches at a strike rate of 133.

The BBL draft will be held on September 1.
