Benji Marshall has been shut out of Queensland and is in doubt to join his South Sydney teammates as the NRL scrambles to do a deal with the state's government.
Benji Marshall is stranded in Sydney and could be shut out of Queensland indefinitely should the NRL not reach a border agreement with the state's government.
The South Sydney star had been granted permission to stay in Sydney and travel to the Gold Coast with families of NRL players on Saturday, plans which have now been derailed.
On Friday the NRL were scrambling to submit individual applications for families of players and staff who have already been relocated to Queensland.
Marshall has just the rest of this season remaining on his NRL deal with Souths which poses a threat to his playing future if an exemption is not granted by the Queensland government.
Marshall's wife Zoe recently gave birth to their second child and all four were expected to arrive in Queensland on Saturday.
It now leaves both the Rabbitohs and the Marshall family uncertain about whether he can eventually join the playing group.
"He's stuck there in Sydney, he was planning to come up with his wife and children," South Sydney captain Adam Reynolds said on Friday.
"I'm not too sure what's going to happen now, we haven't been updated. I think he's still just finding out where he sits with all of this."
Marshall was named in the No.14 jersey to play against Canterbury on Sunday but will have to be replaced.
"I'm very confident we'll have players' wives and the children there," ARLC chairman Peter V'landys told 2GB on Friday.
"Queensland government is being very careful, it requires more detail individually for each person that's going and that's going to take time."
NRL clubs have been told the relocation would be for a minimum of four weeks but the chance of now spending the rest of the season in Queensland is a real possibility as COVID-19 cases rise in NSW and Victoria.
