Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag accepted his side were not at their best as they ground out a positive result.

“We can play better, but we’re very pleased with the win,” Ten Hag told BBC Sport. “The opposition were dynamic. We have to match that. We had to fight for our points.

“There is no easy game in the Premier League and definitely not Wolves. They are a tough team and we did really well.

“We hope we will be better on the ball in the next game.”

New Wolves head coach O’Neil was disappointed to see his side leave Old Trafford with nothing.

“We showed good quality. Unfortunately, we found a way not to put the ball in the net, there were some real good chances,” he said on Sky Sports.

Wolves were denied a penalty in stoppage time when Andre Onana clattered into substitute Sasa Kalajdzic, with visiting boss Gary O’Neil booked for his reaction to the decision following a check from VAR Michael Salisbury.

“Then there was my booking at the end claiming for a penalty – we did deserve to leave with something.

“I thought live it was a penalty – that the goalkeeper almost took our centre-forwards’ head off – and when I watch it back, I am really surprised.”
