Felix's Chelsea move edges closer

Chelsea target Joao Felix was left out of the Atletico Madrid squad for their 2-2 draw at Villarreal which opened up their LaLiga campaign.

The Portugal striker is reportedly closing in on a move to Chelsea after a £42million fee was agreed between the clubs, which would see the 24-year-old make a permanent switch on a six-year deal.

Felix had a six-month loan spell at Stamford Bridge from January 2023 and then spent last season with Barcelona.

Felix's arrival would then appear to open the door for England midfielder Gallagher to complete a move to Atletico, which stalled after Chelsea's intended move for Samu Omorodion fell through.

Chelsea – who lost their opening Premier League match 2-0 against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday – are also reported to have received a formal offer from Napoli for striker Romelu Lukaku.

Without Felix, Atletico twice came from behind in a game that saw all four goals scored in the first half at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Marcos Llorente quickly cancelled out Arnaut Danjuma's 18th-minute opener and Alexander Sorloth restored parity for a second time after Koke turned into his own net.

Valladolid beat Espanyol 1-0 with a Raul Moro goal.

Thiago Motta enjoyed a superb start as Juventus coach as the Turin side thrashed promoted Como 3-0 in their Serie A opener.

Samuel Mbangula, Timothy Weah and Andrea Cambiaso were all on target.

Atalanta were convincing 4-0 winners at Lecce with two goals apiece from Marco Brescianini and Mateo Retegui, one a penalty.
