Redzel has secured his first Group 1 victory when taking out the Doomben 10,000 over 1200m on Saturday.

The Team Snowden-trained runner came into the race off very strong form during the autumn in Sydney and it appeared only a matter of time until he secured a Group 1 win.

Going straight to the lead from the good draw, Redzel was able to hold off his rivals over the concluding stages to win by a half a length over the fast finishing Counterattack with Derryn not far away in third.

Redzel returned a Timeform rating of 121, the same figure he had run to the three previous outings which shows his consistency this campaign.

The four-year-old gelding measures up pretty well to recent winners, running the same figure as 2016 winner Music Magante and one pound below 2015 winner Boban.

From four runs this campaign, Redzel has now won two of them, finishing runner up on the other two occasions and will now head for a spell before tackling the feature sprints during the spring carnival.

Of the beaten runners Counterattack in second ensured the same exacta as the Group 2 Hall Mark Stakes the start prior and ran up to his previous career peak rating of 119 achieved when runner up in the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint last year.

The relatively lightly raced Derryn also continued his rise among the sprinting ranks in third and ran to a new career peak Timeform figure of 117, one pound above his win in the Arrowfield Sprint the start prior.

Fancied runners Fell Swoop and Music Magnate seemingly didn’t handle the soft conditions and failed to fire a shot with Galaxy winner Russian Revolution far from disgraced in fourth.

Stampede has continued his strong recent form with a win in the Group 3 Chairman’s (2000m) following his victory in the Listed Wagga Cup (2000m).

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained runner was taken to the lead and never looked in any danger, running out a one length winner over The Chairman in second with Chocante well back in third.

Running to a new career peak Timeform figure of 105 in the Wagga Cup, Stampede improved again on that effort to run to 109 on Saturday, having now won five of his nine starts, missing the money just once when fourth at Randwick last campaign.

Stampede ran one pound below 2016 winner Real Love and four pounds below 2015 winner Epingle and is the first entire to win the race since Another Warrior in 2003 who ran to 106.

Stampede who was backing up in just eight days was a slight chance of going to the Doomben Cup (2000m) this Saturday but will instead be sent for a spell to prepare for spring features.

Of the beaten runners the aptly named The Chairman ran to a new career peak Timeform figure of 103 with Chocante in third running to a figure of 100, his highest since winning the Group 3 Counties Cup at Pukekohe last campaign.

Feature racing at Scone on Saturday saw Daysee Doom secure a much deserved win in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m).

Having been ultra competitive in Group racing throughout the autumn, the Ron Quinton-trained runner settled off the leaders before proving too strong for Prompt Response in second with Serene Majesty third.

Daysee Doom ran to a new career peak Timeform figure of 108, one pound above her second placing in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes at Rosehill three starts back.

The four-year-old mare is the highest rated winner of the race since Sung in 2008 (110), running eight pounds above 2016 winner Danish Twist.

Prompt Response was very good again in second and ran to a new career peak of 106 with Serene Majesty in third running to 101, her highest since the Group 1 Myer Classic last year.
