Bayliss brimming after landing Cup ride

Crown Golden Ale Caulfield Cup Day was always going to be special for young gun apprentice jockey Regan Bayliss.

The youngster was excited enough about the day, where he was engaged to ride Minnie Downs in the $200,000 Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m).

Romance has Logan pinching herself

Kiwi trainer Donna Logan says Rising Romance’s perfect preparation will give the galloper a ‘definite live chance’ in Saturday’s Crown Golden Ale Caulfield Cup (2400m).

Logan said the four-year-old, who has amassed almost $1 million in prizemoney, was thriving in Australia and expected a big performance from the 2014 Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) winner.

Bande scratched from Caulfield Cup

Bande will not take his place in Saturday’s $3 million Group 1 Crown Golden Ale Caulfield Cup (2400m).

The Japanese visitor on Friday morning failed a veterinary examination carried out by Racing Victoria stewards at Werribee.

The Offer remains in Caulfield Cup

Group 1-winning stayer The Offer has been passed fit to start in Saturday’s $3 million Group 1 Crown Golden Ale Caulfield Cup (2400m).

Racing Victoria stewards inspected the stayer at lunchtime on Friday and deemed him fit to take his place pending a further examination on course on Saturday.

Dear Demi latest Caulfield Cup casualty

All four emergencies have gained a run in the Crown Golden Ale Caulfield Cup following Friday afternoon’s scratching of Dear Demi from the $3 million Group 1 event.

The Clarry Conners-trained five-year-old was withdrawn at 2pm due to a throat infection.

Lucia has Lees back in Spring spotlight

Kris Lees is no stranger to being the centre of attention in Melbourne at Spring Racing Carnival time.

The Newcastle trainer was one of the major players in the spring of 2008, when he had star filly Samantha Miss start favourite in the Cox Plate.

Seymour Cup a chance for Tanby to shine

Tanby's new owners, Bulla Thoroughbreds, took a $140,000 gamble that the eight-year-old gelding had some zip left in him.

He was the top lot at the Hudson Conway tried horse sale in May, which also saw another son of Galileo, Marksmanship, go for $120,000.

Get Out Of Town headlines Avoca Cup

Get Out Of Town had to heed its own advice.

The winner of last year’s Avoca Cup will return to the Avoca Shire Turf Club on Saturday to chase back-to-back successes.

While its 47 starts have been just about evenly split between city and country, the seven-year-old struggled in the 2400m Jordans Cereal Bowl at Caulfield on Wednesday.

Fairytale filly starts new Life

She’s already delivered one fairytale, but Miracles Of Life will be about to fulfil a dream of a different kind when she resumes in Saturday’s Perri Cutten Caulfield Sprint (1100m).

The four-year-old speedster will be out to give American racing and breeding operation Stonestreet Stables a dream introduction to Australian racing.
