AFL: Power need to end run of defeats

3 minute read

Port Adelaide need to snap a three-game losing streak and get their top-eight hopes back on track with a win over St Kilda on Sunday.

The Power came under fire from the home faithful last week when suffering a 69-point defeat at the hands of the Brisbane Lions and they are in need of a response.

St Kilda are also in desperate need of a win to keep alive any faint hopes they may have of making the top eight.

Meanwhile, West Coast will be hoping for some home comforts when they entertain Hawthorn at Optus Stadium.

The Eagles have lost each of the last four games and face a Hawks side that are flying after winning their last four.

Hawthorn are now just one win away from the top eight and another four points is an absolute must for Sam Mitchell's side.

Saints showing positive signs

. What: St Kilda v Port Adelaide
. Where: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne
. When: 13:10 (AEST), Sunday 30th June 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: St Kilda 1.75, Port Adelaide 2.10

St Kilda showed some positive signs in the defeat to Brisbane Lions before the bye.

Ross Lyon's side score 106 points at the Gabba, their highest score of the season, but still ended up on the losing side.

Poor defence cost them, and they will need to put that right if there is to be a push towards the top eight.

Jack Higgins booted five goals in the defeat in Brisbane and can be backed at 10.00 to boot the first goal of the game against the Power.

Port Adelaide have won the last three meeting against St Kilda and they desperate need another one at Marvel Stadium.

All three games have been close, with 10 points their biggest winning margin and with that in mind they are priced at 5.50 to win by 1-12 points.

Hawks target five in a row

. What: West Coast v Hawthorn
. Where: Optus Stadium, Perth
. When: 16:40 (AEST), Sunday 30th June 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel, Channel 7
. Odds: West Coast 2.40, Hawthorn 1.58

Hawthorn won four on the spin before the bye and will be hoping the break does not affect them as they head to Perth.

The Hawks have won the last two meetings between these two sides, including a 116-point victory last season.

West Coast have improved since then, but so too have Hawthorn, and they will fancy their chances of getting the job done.

They can be backed at 5.50 to win this latest meeting by 13-24 points.

West Coast will take plenty of positives from the defeat against Essendon last week, including the return of Oscar Allen, who booted two goals.

The Eagles look much stronger with Allen in their forward line and he can be backed at 10.00 to kick the first on Sunday.
