Sinatra to salute at Newcastle
The penultimate race on the Newcastle card is a 1200m Benchmark 64 handicap set to take place on a soft 7 surface.
Joiselle is expected to have her supporters, having registered wins in each of her first three races.
The third of those saw the four-year-old return from a spell with a near four-length victory in an 1100m Class 3 handicap at Scone last month.
Joiselle raced on a heavy 9 track that day, however, she lost her unbeaten record when stepped up to metro level racing for a Benchmark 72 handicap at Randwick 27th July.
The drop in grade is a positive here and, while the quicker going forecast is no issue, she has a wide barrier to overcome in this event.
THE NEW SINATRA is the selection in this event however, having demonstrated good form in his first prep.
The gelding recorded placed efforts in each of his first three starts, including when beaten a length into second in a course and distance maiden held on a good 4 track in March.
The pick came home third of six in a maiden held on a heavy 8 track over the same distance at Kembla Grange just over two weeks later.
Trained by John O'Shea & Tom Charlton, the gelding recorded his first win when successful by just under two lengths in a maiden over this track and trip in April.
The son of Russian Revolution has had a couple of barrier trials at Randwick this prep and is taken to resume with a win wearing a tongue tie for the first time.
Rommeo for Bunbury glory
The penultimate race on the Bunbury card is a 1400m Class 1 handicap contest.
A soft 6 track is expected with Lombadina set to jump as favourite having registered two good efforts so far this prep.
The first of those saw the four-year-old beaten less than a length when third over 1200m in a Class 1 handicap on the Scarpside track at Pinjarra last month.
This drop to provincial level is a positive for the filly here, having followed that effort up with a fourth in a metro contest over the same distance at Belmont two weeks later.
However, Michael Grantham's representative steps up in distance here and ROMMEO is preferred in this race.
While the son of Demerit has a wide alley here, he has been ridden from off the pace this prep and should have no issues with similar tactics expected in this contest.
The five-year-old has performed well in defeat in the main this time around, including when runner-up over 1300m in a Class 1 handicap at Belmont on his penultimate start.
Rommeo raced on a heavy 8 track that day and was slowly away when beaten just over two-and-a-half-lengths into sixth in a 1400m event at the same venue subsequently.
Clifford Green's gelding gets a drop to provincial level racing for this event and his representative is the pick to record the second win of his career.
Gold to score at Rockhampton
Rockhampton are set to stage a seven-race card with the fifth race of the day an 1100m Class 1 handicap.
DISCOVERED GOLD is the pick here, having shown improvement on his sole barrier trial when saluting on debut in a 1050m maiden at this venue last month.
The selection came home over two-lengths clear of her rivals when racing on a good 4 track on that occasion.
This daughter of Gold Standard is expected to have improved for that experience, while barrier two is a positive in this contest.
Trained by Kevin Miller, the heavy 10 track expected here is a slight concern and, with Tahlia Fenlon who was on board for her debut victory in the saddle, Discovered Gold looks capable of maintaining her unbeaten record.
