Premier League: Tottenham summer transfer update

3 minute read

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou continues to be linked with an interest in a whole host of players as he attempts to strengthen his squad for the new Premier League season.

The transfer window is very much open, but with Euro 2024 taking place the transfer market is only expected to pick up once the tournament is over.

Spurs have already wrapped up a couple of pieces of transfer business with German forward Timo Werner extending his loan spell from RB Leipzig by another season.

The Lilywhites have also snapped up 19-year-old Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who is seen as one for the future, for an undisclosed fee from Djurgarden.

Another for the future who is poised to head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is Northern Irish starlet George Feeney, who became the youngest-ever goalscorer for Glentoran at the age of 15 years, eight months and 14 days.

Tottenham fans will be hoping for some big signings before the window closes and Postecoglou will be hoping for the same, with Spurs 3.00 to finish in the top four in the Premier League next season.

Here are some of the latest names to be linked.

Giorgi Mamardashvili - Goalkeeper (Valencia)

Reports claim that Tottenham are among the clubs showing an interest in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili ahead of a potential summer switch.

Spurs have a fine goalkeeper already in the form of Italy international Guglielmo Vicario, but that is not stopping links to Mamardashvili, while the 23-year-old is also being linked with a move to either Chelsea or Bayern Munich.

The Valencia gloveman is currently in action at the Euros with Georgia, who picked up their first-ever finals points courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Czech Republic.

Tottenham are priced at 21.00 to complete a deal for Mamardashvili, but the move would seem to make little sense unless Vicario was to pick up a serious injury.

Postecoglou may be best served keeping his powder dry for other areas of his squad that need strengthening.

Ivan Toney - Striker (Brentford)

Strengthening the Spurs attack is certainly high on Postecoglou's agenda during the close season and Ivan Toney is definitely on the radar for a move across the capital.

The 28-year-old England international is currently on the books of Premier League rivals Brentford but could be on the move this summer.

Tottenham are said to be in the hunt, with some reports claiming that the Bees have rejected an offer from Spurs as they fight to keep hold of their star performer.

Toney is currently at Euro 2024 with England and says he is focused on the tournament, not rumours linking him with a move.

Jonathan David - Striker (Lille)

Tottenham are also being linked with another talented forward in the form of Lille's Canadian star Jonathan David.

The 24-year-old has been told he can leave the Ligue 1 outfit if a club comes in and matches their valuation, with Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea reported to be interested.

David is currently playing for Canada at the Copa America, but that is not stopping Tottenham from working on a move in the background.

The forward scored 26 goals in 47 appearances for Lille last season and such form caught the eye of Postecoglou and other coaches across Europe.
